What is an Exhaust System Checks service?

Lube Stop’s Exhaust System Checks service is the inspection of the exhaust system.  This inspection includes a visual examination of the exhaust system from engine combustion chambers all the way to the tailpipe.  The major components of the exhaust system that are included in the inspection are the exhaust manifolds, oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, resonator, exhaust pipes, muffler, and tailpipe.  If any component of your vehicle’s exhaust system is damaged or heavily contaminated, you should have it fixed or replaced to avoid critical damage to the vehicle’s engine.

Lube Stop provides this service as needed.  To determine if it is needed, we look for signs that the exhaust system is having issues.  So, a visual inspection to detect pollutants or damage inside the exhaust system is done.  Following that, Lube Stop also inspects for grinding or knocking exhaust noise, steam or odd odour from your exhaust, gas pedal vibrations, and decreased fuel efficiency.  If they are present, we recommend replacing or fixing the exhaust system components.  If the customer agrees, then we proceed with the Exhaust System Checks service.

So, always bring any indicators of trouble to the attention of our Lube Stop technicians.  These include signs of strange exhaust steam or leakage, loud engine rumbling, gas pedal vibrations, and a decrease in fuel efficiency.  From there, we will trouble shoot and determine if you need to replace or fix your exhaust system.

We do all this so you can enjoy the benefits of reliable engine performance and reduced exhaust emissions.

What is Exhaust System for?

An exhaust inspection is required to control your vehicle’s emissions and to make sure your vehicle will pass an emissions test.

The main functions of a vehicle’s exhaust system are noise control, engine performance, and fuel efficiency improvements.  Depending on the make and model of your vehicle and the number of engine valves it has, the layout of your vehicle exhaust system may vary.  Exhaust systems are also used to guide reaction exhaust gases away from a controlled combustion inside the engine and passengers of the vehicle.  The longer it takes for exhaust gases to leave your vehicle, the longer it takes to take in oxygen and generate more power.  Having an exhaust system that’s in good working condition, or installing a performance exhaust system, will allow your vehicle to breathe better and faster, which means more power and better performance.

Why Do I Need an Exhaust System Checks service?

The Exhaust System Checks service is the inspection of your vehicle’s exhaust system.  A well maintained exhaust system helps your vehicle engine deliver lots of benefits.  For example, it keeps the system running better, it prevents corrosion inside the exhaust and unnecessary noise pollution.

We do these checks so that our customers can avoid problems with the exhaust in their car, truck, or SUV.  The exhaust is an important maintenance item responsible for ensuring your engine work well and does not break down.  Your exhaust system keeps the contaminants away from your engine and helps the engine running better and longer.

So, it is fair to conclude that an improper functioning exhaust system is NOT something you want to ignore.

That’s why we check the exhaust system every visit.  We need to make sure that it is clean and functioning as it should.  We understand that it costs a little in the short run to have the exhaust maintained, but it saves a lot in the long run.

How Often Do I Need It?

The exhaust system should be checked each time you have service with Lube Stop.  And, of course, we should check it anytime you have observed issues.  Your owner’s manual will also advise you to do it at various intervals.  Please check your manual.

Also, lean on us at Lube Stop for advice.  We use a system of processes called Precision Based Recommendations to help investigate a vehicle’s overall condition.  This system of inspection and trouble shooting helps us get a clearer picture of your car, truck, or SUV as it stands, today.  That is because it removes the guess work.  Learn more about this system below.

Context for these Services

Your vehicle uses an internal combustion engine.  This engine uses the combustion of fuel to power almost everything.  This is done when fuel alongside an air oxidizer and spark plugs creates a working fluid flow circuit inside a combustion chamber.

In your internal combustion engine, the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion applies direct force to some component of the engine.  The force is applied typically to pistons, turbine blades, rotors and nozzles.  This force moves the component over a distance, transforming chemical energy into useful work.

Typically, your combustion engine is fed with fossil fuels like natural gas or petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel or fuel oil.  Your engine is the hub for many things, including those listed below.

  • combustion chamber
  • cylinder head
  • camshaft
  • set of spark plugs
  • valvetrain
  • valves
  • rocker arms
  • pushrods
  • lifters
  • fuel injectors
  • pistons
  • connecting rods
  • engine block
  • crankcase
  • crankshaft
  • timing system
  • timing chain

All these work in unison to power all the other systems within your vehicle.  Without a fully functioning engine, everything else suffers.  So, let us at Lube Stop keep your engine functioning and everything else that relies on it.

Maintaining your Vehicle

To do this, you must TAKE CARE of your vehicle.  That means changing the oil regularly.  It also means changing your filters regularly.  And, it means changing your fluids, lubricants, coolants and greases.  These maintenance parts don’t remain the same.  They get dirty, dusty, polluted, corroded and worn as you drive your vehicle from day to day.  So, if you want to extend the life of your car, truck or SUV, then you must maintain it and take care of it.

So, drop by our lube shops and get your oil changed, your filters changed, your fluids checked or flushed, your belts replaced … and so on.  We’re standing by!
