What is a Battery Checks & Replacements service?

Lube Stop’s Battery Checks & Replacements service is the inspection of your vehicle’s battery function.  If you start noticing your battery isn’t working as it used to, come in for an inspection.  In this situation, most often it is because of a dying battery or loose connection cables.  We can charge your battery, reconnect your cables and even replace the battery altogether.  A Lube Stop technician will inspect your battery and provide a recommendation that best suits the situation.  Be sure to let us know if you notice dim headlights, clicking sound when you turn your key, slow crank, difficulty starting or backfiring.

What is a Vehicle Battery for?

The battery in your vehicle has many purposes.  It plays a crucial part in starting your engine and powering your vehicle’s electrical system.  With a dead battery, your car will not even turn over.  Some other electrical components that are powered by your vehicle include power windows, power steering, headlights, exterior lights, windshield wipers, defroster, and more.  Obviously, you need a fully charged and reliable battery to drive your car and use its various features and systems.

There are numerous reasons for a dead battery.  Some of the most common reasons include loose or corroded battery connections, persistent electrical drains and charging problems.  Also, constantly demanding more power than the alternator can provide is a problem for batteries to keep their charge.  And extreme weather conditions can also be hard on your battery.  And finally habits or errors such as leaving your lights one or your car door ajar can drain your battery.  Other habits like using lights, radio, heat, and so on, without running the vehicle to re-charge your battery simultaneously, can make a battery die.

If the problem is one referred to as a parasitic draw, it’s likely your battery posts need cleaning or the battery may need replacing due to it being faulty.  A faulty battery is likely when imperfect seals between the terminal posts and the plastic casing lead to a sulphuric acid leak.  This is evident in the corrosion on the posts.  So, a cleaning may fix the problem temporarily only if the battery is actually faulty.

That’s why we check your battery every visit.  We need to make sure that it is functioning properly.  We understand that it costs a little in the short run to get these safety items checked.  But it can be a life saver in the long run.

How Often Do I Need It?

The battery should be checked each time you have service with Lube Stop.  And, of course, we should check it anytime you have observed issues.  Your owner’s manual will also advise you to do it at various intervals.  Please check your manual.

Also, lean on us at Lube Stop for advice.  We use a system of processes called Precision Based Recommendations to help investigate a vehicle’s overall condition.  This system of inspection and trouble shooting helps us get a clearer picture of your car, truck, or SUV as it stands, today.  That is because it removes the guess work.  Learn more about this system below.

Context for these Services

Your vehicle uses an internal combustion engine.  This engine uses the combustion of fuel to power almost everything.  This is done when fuel alongside an air oxidizer and spark plugs creates a working fluid flow circuit inside a combustion chamber.

In your internal combustion engine, the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion applies direct force to some component of the engine.  The force is applied typically to pistons, turbine blades, rotors and nozzles.  This force moves the component over a distance, transforming chemical energy into useful work.

Typically, your combustion engine is fed with fossil fuels like natural gas or petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel or fuel oil.  Your engine is the hub for many things, including those listed below.

  • combustion chamber
  • cylinder head
  • camshaft
  • set of spark plugs
  • valvetrain
  • valves
  • rocker arms
  • pushrods
  • lifters
  • fuel injectors
  • pistons
  • connecting rods
  • engine block
  • crankcase
  • crankshaft
  • timing system
  • timing chain

All these work in unison to power all the other systems within your vehicle.  Without a full functioning engine, everything else suffers.  So, let us at Lube Stop keep your engine functioning and everything else that relies on it.

Maintaining your Vehicle

To do this, you must TAKE CARE of your vehicle.  That means changing the oil regularly.  It also means changing your filters regularly.  And, it means changing your fluids, lubricants, coolants and greases.  These maintenance parts don’t remain the same.  They get dirty, dusty, polluted, corroded and worn as you drive your vehicle from day to day.  So, if you want to extend the life of your car, truck or SUV, then you must maintain it and take care of it.

So, drop by our lube shops and get your oil changed, your filters changed, your fluids checked or flushed, your belts replaced … and so on.  We’re standing by!
