Lube Stop’s Transfer Case Fluid Changes service is the replacement of the transfer case fluid that your vehicle uses to cool and lubricate your transfer case. Your transfer case is the component of your vehicle that is responsible for transferring the power from transmission to front and rear axles. The location of your vehicle’s transfer case depends on your vehicle.
If your transfer case fluid is dirty or contaminated, it doesn’t circulate as well as it should. That’s why you have it changed or flushed.
Lube Stop provides this service as needed. To determine if it is needed, we look for signs that the fluid is dirty or contaminated. So, a visual inspection to detect pollutants or leaking is done. Following that, Lube Stop also inspects for leaking fluid, vibrations while driving, difficulty steering, grinding sounds, as well as the abnormal gas pedal behaviour. If they are present, we recommend replacing the fluid to the customer. If the customer agrees, then we proceed with the Transfer Case Fluid Changes or Flush service.

What is Transfer Case Fluid For?
The location of transfer in your vehicle depends on the type of vehicle you drive. The transfer case transfers power from the transmission to both the front and rear axles. Transfer case components can vary from vehicle to vehicle. They can include gears, hydraulics, or chain drive. On some vehicles, such as four-wheel-drive trucks or vehicles intended for off-road use, this feature is controlled by the driver.
When checking and changing the transfer case fluid, the Lube Stop technicians first make certain the vehicle has cooled for at least 2 hours as to not handle hot fluids. They then set the parking brake and chock/block at least one wheel front and back. The drain and fill plugs are generally located facing the rear of the transfer case and vehicle. The lower plug is the drain and the plug located higher up is the fill. They remove the fill plug, then remove the drain plug. They allow the fluid to drain as long as possible to extract the maximum amount.
Once the fluid is completely drained, they reinstall the drain plug, leaving the fill plug out. If there is not enough room under your vehicle to get to the fill plug, they use a filler/extraction syringe. The transfer case does not have a dipstick to check the fluid levels. So, they “fill till they spill” using either the fluid bottle top or syringe.
After that, they reinstall the fluid fill plug and wipe any excess fluid from the transfer case.
